Dream Stories
Here are just a few of the many Dreams Come True to show how we have made a difference to children's lives….
Darren
This is the delightful, 8 year old Darren meeting his hero Valentino Rossi - as you can see from the huge grin on his face, this really was a Dream Come True. Darren has a passion for motorbike racing and enjoyed a weekend at the British Moto GP. Darren has a spinal injury that has left him paralysed from the neck downwards and travels everywhere is his superfast electric wheelchair with a ventilator attached. His parents summed up the day, "...not only have you made Darren's dream come true, but you have also made ours knowing that everything that Darren has ever wanted has now happened! We could never thank you enough....."
Ashlyn
This is Ashlyn enjoying herself at Universal Studio's City Walk. This is her parents' favourite picture as they never thought they would be able to take her. Ashlyn is oxygen dependent and has very complicated medical conditions which have threatened to leave her paralysed and they have been prepared for the worst on several occasions. As you can see she is a very bright and determined little girl who melts the hearts of all she meets. She always has a smile on her face and never stops talking! Ashlyn was our 4000th dream.
Andrew
It's hard to believe when you look at this photo of Andrew with Metallica, that just 18 months ago he was in hospital waiting for a new treatment to digest food and was getting weaker by the day. Andrew plays the electric guitar and his guitar teacher introduced him to Metallica's music. He is now a HUGE fan and had an incredible day meeting the band and watching their performance!
Megan
This is 7 year old Megan enjoying her fantastic dream of swimming with dolphins - her favourite animal! Dreams Come True sent the whole family on holiday where they enjoyed this fabulous encounter. megan, who is still undergoing treatment for Acute Lymphoid Leukaemia which was diagnosed in 2006, is now keen to pursue a career as a dolphin trainer!
Nathan
A huge Manchester United fan, Nathan suffers from Scoliosis. His mum wrote to us to simply ask if we could make him feel special for the day. Nathan also loves sports cars, so not only did we arrange for him to watch Manchester United playing and meet the players, but we also hired a Porsche to get him there! Nathan went straight to the training ground where he had a chat with Sir Alex Ferguson before being introduced to the players. Nathan had a fabulous day, his mum Lisa said, "I just want to say thanks to everyone at Dreams Come True for organising this day for Nathan, after all he has been through and his bravery, it was just so amazing...,it is a memory he will treasure forever and something we can share. I just can't thank you enough, you will never know how special this day was to us. I just hope everyone involved knows the difference they make to the children's lives and also to the family to have such happy memories when they have been through so many hard and emotional times."
Jordan Hoban
Dreams Come True surprised seven-year-old football fan Jordan Hoban with the chance of a lifetime to watch the England squad train at Wembley and meet them afterwards. Jordan, who was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia in 2004, met the entire squad including Ashley Cole, Peter Crouch and David James. But best of all, Jordan got to present his favourite player, captain Steven Gerrard, with a Player of the Year trophy on behalf of website fa.com. Jordan said: "I had an amazing day, I loved it! I got to meet all the players and have my photo taken with them and also had my shirt signed by all of them, which I've framed and has pride of place on my bedroom wall."
Daniel Leonard
Daniel is 11 years old and has leukaemia. He has spent three years undergoing treatment for his illness. Daniel’s dream was to ride in a Bugatti Veyron, the fastest car in the world. Dreams Come True arranged for Daniel and his dad to travel to Bugatti in Strasbourg. Car-mad Daniel was taken for a spin around the Bugatti test track in the 253mph super car and treated to a VIP lunch. This was a once in a lifetime experience that Daniel will never forget.
Felicia Cantone
9 year old Felicia has had extensive surgery for bone cancer and her dream to meet the stars of hit show The X Factor was realised when Dreams Come True arranged for Felicia to visit the set during rehearsals. Felicia sat in the judges’ chair, joked with choreographer Brian Friedman and met Simon Cowell saying “I used to think you were a monster, but you’re not!”
Isabelle McGarvey
Isabelle is three years old and suffers from Downs Syndrome as well associated heart and respiratory problems. Shortly before her first birthday Isabelle developed alopecia which means she will be permanently bald. Isabelle loves the playhouse at her playgroup so mum, Maggie, asked Dreams Come True for a playhouse Isabelle could enjoy at home. The house is to be painted in Isobel’s favourite colours, pink and white and will have a picket fence and a path built around it.
